SNR Optimization of Multi-Span Fiber Optic Communication Systems Employing EDFAs With Non-Flat Gain And Noise Figure

Throughput optimization of optical communication systems is a key challenge for current networks. The use gain-flattening filters (GFFs) simplifies the problem at cost insertion loss, higher power consumption and potentially poorer performance. In this work, we propose component wise model multi-span transmission system signal-to-noise (SNR) optimization. A machine-learning based trained gain noise figure spectral profile C-band amplifier without GFF. combined with Gaussian nonlinearities in fibers including stimulated Raman scattering implementation penalty measured back-to-back order to predict SNR each channel wavelength division multiplexed system. All basic components are differentiable allow gradient descent-based arbitrary configuration terms number spans length per span. When input optimized flat maximized received channel, minimum performance an 3-span experimental improved by up 8 dB w.r.t. profile.
